An epic day of exploration through Albania’s most breathtaking natural wonders—starting from the vibrant city of Shkodër, cruising through fjord-like lakes, discovering the magical Shala River, and ending in the serene beauty of Valbona Valley.
Your day begins in the vibrant northern city of Shkodër, known for its rich culture, Ottoman-era architecture, and friendly atmosphere. At 07:30 AM, the journey sets off from Hotel Rozafa, located in the heart of the city.
The drive to Koman Port takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, including a short stop for refreshments. As the road winds through remote mountain landscapes and alongside the Drin River, you’ll witness a quieter side of Albania—one shaped by nature and tradition.
At 09:30 AM, board the ferry at Koman for an extraordinary cruise across Lake Koman—one of Albania’s most awe-inspiring natural wonders.
This 1 hour and 20-minute boat trip is often described as sailing through a forgotten fjord. Towering cliffs, green mountains, and secluded bays surround you, offering postcard-worthy views at every turn. Be sure to have your camera ready—it’s one of the most photogenic places in the Balkans.
At around 10:50 AM, you’ll arrive at the stunning Shala River, accessible only by boat. This remote destination, often called “the Thailand of Albania,” is famous for its crystal-clear turquoise waters and towering canyon walls.
You’ll have over 5 hours to enjoy and explore:
Swim in the icy, transparent water
Lounge in hammocks or riverside terraces
Dine on fresh local food at rustic wooden restaurants
Hike along forest paths and riverside trails
Soak in the sun and disconnect from the modern world
Whether you’re an adventurer or a relaxer, the Shala River has something unforgettable to offer.
At 16:00 PM, the boat departs from the Shala River, heading upstream toward Fierzë Port. The return ride is a calm, reflective journey as the sun begins to lower over the jagged cliffs.
After 1 hour and 40 minutes, you’ll arrive at Fierzë around 17:40 PM, where ground transportation awaits.
At 18:00 PM, a short and scenic transfer takes you from Fierzë to Valbona—the heart of Albania’s northern mountains. After about 45 minutes, you’ll reach this peaceful alpine village at approximately 18:45 PM.
Nestled between towering peaks and surrounded by pine forests, Valbona is the perfect end to your day. Whether you plan to rest in a cozy guesthouse, hike the Valbona Pass the next morning, or simply breathe in the fresh mountain air—this destination delivers on serenity and natural splendor.
What To Expect
07:30 📍 Departure from Shkodër
Departure is at 07:30 AM in front of Hotel Rozafa in the center of Shkodër.
After approximately 1.5 hours of scenic driving, including a short break, you’ll arrive at Koman Port.
09:30 🛥 Boat to Shala River
At 09:30 AM, you’ll board the boat heading to the Shala River.
Enjoy an unforgettable 1 hour and 20-minute cruise through the spectacular canyons and green waters of Lake Koman.
Arrival at the Shala River is around 10:50 AM.

Swim in the cold, crystal-clear waters
Take a walk in nature or along the riverbanks

16:00 🛥 Departure to Fierzë
At 16:00 PM, the boat departs from the Shala River towards Fierzë Port.
After a 1 hour and 40-minute ride, arrival in Fierzë is at 17:40 PM.
18:00 🚌 Fierzë → Valbonë
At 18:00 PM, you depart by vehicle toward Valbonë.
After about 45 minutes of driving, you arrive in Valbonë around 18:45 PM
Notes:
– At Shala River, there are restaurants and guesthouses with traditional Albanian food, where you can eat. This is not included in the travel ticket. Travel ticket includes bus and boat transportation only.
– We inform you that, if the level of Komani Lake falls below the normal value (rare cases), we will walk for approximately 20 minutes.
